Emotions are still running high in the wine-growing village of Pommard (Côte-d'Or) following the death of three masons during construction work on a wine estate . A tragedy that has shattered the tranquility of this town of 400 inhabitants, surrounded by Burgundy vineyards. The day before, the three victims, aged 45, 56 and 58, were working on an old stone wall to reinforce it, before it collapsed and buried them. This construction site on the edge of the village had begun a month ago to build a wine-growing building to serve as a warehouse and winery.
This Wednesday, May 14, the road leading to the accident site is closed to vehicles, but it is once again possible to get there on foot. All that remains of the site is a dump truck filled with rubble and an excavator that appears to have stopped as if in mid-movement. The stone fence, a little over two meters high, is also visible, split in two by a hole about three meters long, where the section of wall collapsed. A pile of stones litters the ground. The calm that reigns on the path contrasts with the bustle
